Architecture / PÉRAU (Gabriel-Louis).
- Historical description of the Hôtel royal des Invalides. Paris, Guillaume Desprez, 1756. In-folio, 432 x 290. Marbled calf, triple gilt filet framed on the plates, fleurs-de-lis on the corners. Back ribbed with fleurs-de-lis, double fillet on the cups. 2 ff. , frontispiece, xij, 104 pp., 107 plates.original edition. It is illustrated with a frontispiece engraved by Charles Nicolas Cochin after Cazes, a title vignette engraved by Cochin, 3 headings including one signed by Pieter Van Schuppen, one drawn and engraved by Cochin after a painting by Pierre Dulin and one unsigned, 2 letters respectively engraved by Cochin and Pasquier, and 107 plates engraved by Lucas, Cochin, Fouin, Fierville, Aveline, Louise-Madeleine Cochin (Louise-Madeleine Horthemels) and Hérisset, after Jean-Michel Chevotet, Fierville, Forestier, Noël Coypel, Bon Boullogne, Louis de Boullogne, Charles de La Fosse, Jean Jouvenet and Michel Corneille. As the author points out in his foreword, these engravings are the same as those in Jean-Joseph Granet's Histoire de l'hôtel royal des Invalides published in 1736. This edition, given by Pérau 20 years later, was to be a corrected edition of Granet's, but, as the author points out, "the changes that have taken place since then, both in terms of the increase in the number of buildings inside the house and the embellishment of the outside, have determined to make an absolutely new work". (p. iv). PP. 102 to 104 piqué. Rubbed jaws, missing caps, blunt corners. Millard, I, 132 - Berlin Kat., n°2513 - Cohen, 788. (XIV-9)"
