BERTRAND CARRIÈRE 1957
Shooting of the movie "La Pirate" by Jacques Doillon. Jacques Doillon, Jane Birkin and Philippe Léotard (from behind), 1984. Photograph. Silver print on baryta paper, in 1987, signed, titled and dated in pencil on the back by the author. Image: 28.5 x 42.5 cm; sheet: 40 x 50 cm. Bertrand Carrière (Canadian, born in 1957) has woven a photographic work that is both personal and varied. His research first developed into a documentary approach in which he is interested in memory and the history of places. He then adopts a more intimate approach, characterized by an openness of the gaze to the irregularities of the visible. His works can be found in several major collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, the Musée national des Beaux-Arts du Québec, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts and the Bibliothèque nationale de France. The photograph of the shooting of "The Pirate" is, in the words of the author, his favourite of all.
