STÉPHANE DUROY 1948
Berlin, 2009. Photography. Period silver print, author's stamp, titled, dated and marked "Print D. Layer 2009" in ink and signed; numbered 1/15 in pencil on the back. 19,5 x 13 cm. Initially a press photographer, Stéphane Duroy (French, born in 1948) moves away from reportage to question the relationship to the history of a twentieth century Europe marked by two wars, in an approach that is both documentary and conceptual, with a sobriety of means that forbids the spectacular and the anecdotal. This profound and disillusioned reflection gives rise to a large body of monographs. His work is part of numerous collections such as the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the Fonds National d'Art Contemporain or the Maison Européenne de la Photographie. The 5 proposed prints come from three territories that have marked the photographer's work: Berlin (Berlin), England (Distress) and Montana (Unknown). Among these pieces are rare, period prints, sometimes even first prints of the series presented.
