GÉRARD RONDEAU 1953-2016
Sarajevo 1994, at Zlakko's house, from the series "Silence and nothing around". Photography. Period silver print on baryta paper, red stamp of the author under the image, titled in pencil and label on the back. Image : 25 x 35 cm ; sheet : 30 x 40 cm. Gérard Rondeau (French, 1953-2016), a tireless traveller, has criss-crossed the world while remaining deeply attached to his native Champagne, taking a new look at the landscapes and the people who make it up. He explored the backstage of museums for twenty years, chronicled life in Sarajevo during the siege, drew a portrait of contemporary Morocco in a dialogue beyond time with Delacroix's paintings and drawings... His work has been shown in numerous exhibitions around the world, from the Galeries nationales du Grand Palais to the National Gallery in Jakarta, from the Maison Européenne de la Photographie to the Festival de la Luz in Buenos Aires, from the Musée de l'Elysée in Lausanne to the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin.
