COLLECTION DE MONSIEUR D.M.
Lots 114 to 201
"In the evening of my life, the time has come to part with the images that form part of my photographic collection.
of my photographic collection.
Three reasons guided me in this undertaking, which began some forty years ago:
Contrary to what Baudelaire wrote, photography has always represented for me a major art form.
the only one that immortalizes the present moment and, consequently, enables us to
to reconstitute a monument, a character, a landscape, all of which have now disappeared.
So I fully subscribe to the words of Claude Simon, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature,
that the purpose of photography is to fix the agony of the moment as it disintegrates into the past.
into the past.
Although I'm originally from Paris, my entire adult life has been spent abroad, moving
from one country to another on five continents. Most of the images I have collected
are part of my desire to keep a souvenir of the countries I've lived in or traveled to.
I've always wanted to keep a trace of everything I've loved or that curiosity has led me to love.
curiosity has led me to love; so in this collection you'll find reproductions of human types,
monuments and landscapes that have always impressed me;
images of the infinitely small and the infinitely large.
I hope that these images will also delight those who acquire them, even if
even if they don't evoke a specific memory.
