LABORDE (Alexandre de).
Descriptive itinerary of Spain, and basic table of the different branches of administration and industry of this kingdom. Paris, Nicolle, Lenormant, 1808. 6 volumes in-8°, including five of text and an atlas, rooted basane, decorated smooth spines, red title piece and green tomaison, marbled edges (contemporary binding). Tear at the head of the errata leaf of volume I and pp. 127-128 of volume II without missing. Two slightly scorched notebooks in volume V. Original edition, decorated with 29 maps engraved on copper by Vicq, distributed in the atlas. A chronological table of the kings of Spain in volume I. Alexandre de Laborde (1773-1842), archaeologist and member of the institute, was attached to the embassy of Lucien Bonaparte in Madrid in 1800-1801. His comprehensive work includes extensive information on Spain in all fields, including the Spanish possessions on the northern coasts of the Barbary Coast (Volume III, pp.417-428). In Volume III (pp.144-145) and Volume V (pp.425-428) there are some insights into bullfighting and in particular the "suppression of bullfights". Very fine copy in very fine bindings.
