PIERRE-ÉLIE DE PIBRAC 1983 - Lot 87
PIERRE-ÉLIE DE PIBRAC 1983 #20 in the "Desmemoria" series. Photography. Silver print on ilford baryta warmtone 24k paper, in 2017, signed, titled, dated and inscribed "Thomas Consani print" in ink on the back. Paper coming from Jeanloup Sieff's boxes of photographic papers. Image: 22 x 16.5 cm; sheet: 30.5 x 23.8 cm. Pierre-Elie de Pibrac (French, born in 1983) learned photography as a self-taught photographer by studying the work of his grandfather, Paul de Cordon. He approaches his subjects by immersion and always devotes himself to them for several months, whether it is Cuba or the Paris Opera. Starting from an emotion, an encounter, he first builds a black and white testimony, which he makes dialogue with a more plastic work, in color. Here we present two pieces from his latest project, the Desmemoria series, produced in Cuba between 2016 and 2017. This anthropological and social testimony on the life of the Azucareros, a people born from the sugar culture and always nourished by the values of the Revolution, received the Levallois Prize in 2018, and will be the subject of a book published by Xavier Barral in 2019.
