MICHEL VANDEN EECKHOUDT 1947-2015 - Lot 115
MICHEL VANDEN EECKHOUDT 1947-2015 Belgium, 1993. Photography. Period silver print on baryta paper, signed, captioned and dated in pencil on the back by the author. Image : 27 x 18 cm ; sheet : 30 x 24 cm. Michel Vanden Eeckhoudt (Belgian, 1947-2015) has, from the very beginning, constructed pure, elegant photographs, marked by a constant humour that allows him to adopt a fair and amused distance to what is unfolding before his eyes. "I consider humour to be a very rich register, provided that it is not limited to anecdotal gags. You can find tenderness, irony, subversion, a lot of criticism. By making people smile, we often make them think. There's always tragedy in comedy, and vice versa. Happiness and pain are close to each other. » Dogs (to which he dedicated a book) were one of his favourite subjects. With them, he questioned in a disturbing way the relationship between the animal and its master. The photograph shown here is on the cover of the Photo Poche devoted to the author.
