HUGUES DE WURSTEMBERGER 1955 - Lot 120
HUGUES DE WURSTEMBERGER 1955 "Pauline, 1993", from the "Pauline and Peter" series. Photography. Period silver print on baryta paper, signed, dated and titled in pencil on the back. Image : 22 x 22 cm ; sheet : 30 x 24 cm. Hugues de Wurstemberger (Swiss, born in 1955), former member of the Swiss Guard, first became known thanks to the photographs he made of the interior, gathered for an exhibition in 1985 at the Musée de l'Elysée in Lausanne. Since then, he has devoted himself to black and white and medium format photography. Always with a view to transfiguring the banality of the ordinary by the grace of a fair distance, between tenderness and smile, he devotes himself to subjects that are closer to him. In 1995, he photographed the peasants of the Swiss mountains, fighting against the modernization and standardization of lifestyles. In 2005, he published "Pauline et Pierre", a family album that brings together over 18 years the "little white stones" of his two children's youth. His work was rewarded in 1990 by the Niépce Prize, in 1991 by the World Press Photo, and in 2002 by the Silver Prize.
