HENRI CARTIER-BRESSON Mathilde Camhi Collection At the beginning of the 1930s, Henri Cartier-Bresson decided to go on the road, no longer simply to travel, but from then on, to photograph. His friend André Pieyre de Mandiargues would later say that it was during these trips to Europe that Cartier-Bresson became Cartier-Bresson. In Valencia, he photographed his friend Mathilde Camhi, whom he had met at the André Lhote Academy in Paris and with whom he shared a certain infatuation for surrealist research. It was in Spain that he made some of his most powerful images.
