Edouard Louis DUBUFE (Paris, 1819 - Versailles, 1883)
Edouard Louis DUBUFE (Paris, 1819 - Versailles, 1883) Portrait of Countess Louise d'Imecourt (1826 - 1893), née Marguerite de Galliffet, reading on a sofa Canvas (enlarged on all four sides) Frame : 96 cm Height : 96 cm Width : 128 cm (110 x 134) signed (?) on the lower right on the added part. Edouard - Dubufe 1853 Old restorations Bibliography : exhibition catalog, "Claude-Marie, Edouard et Guillaume Dubufe, Portraits d'un siècle d'élégance parisienne" (by Emmanuel Bréon), Délégation à l'Action Artistique de la Ville de Paris, 1988, p. 158 (mention, not reproduced) with the date of 1854. Daughter of Alexandre Justin M de Galliffet and Victoire Augusta Baude de la Vieuville, Louise Marguerite de Galliffet was the sister of General de Galliffet. She married Charles Louis Xavier de Vassinhac d'Imécourt in 1847. She was therefore the sister-in-law of the model of the other painting by Dubufe presented in this same sale. Our painting is dated 1853, the same year that Edouard Dubufe painted the "Portrait of Empress Eugenie", kept at the Château de Compiègne. It is chronologically situated in his career just after the masterpieces of the Musée d'Orsay (Portrait of Juliette Dubufe, 1842; Portrait of Madame F., 1850) or of the Comédie Française (Portrait of Rachel, 1850).
