Alexis AXILETTE (1860-1931) Portrait of an Elegant Woman Pastel on paper signed and dated 1918 lower left 81 x 65 cm. A student of Jean-Léon Gérôme, Axilette won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1885 and made his debut at the Salon that same year. The Musée d'Orsay holds several of his portraits, some in pastel.
