The aquatint illustrates Pierre Reverdy's poem.
Dimensions :
+ Size of sheet with aquatint and poem: 48 x 76 cm
+ Size of side of sheet with aquatint only: 48 x 38 cm
Condition: In excellent condition. May have occasional light handling creases or minor staining to edges. Very clean image otherwise, well inked. Folded and printed with Pierre Reverdy's poem as published.
From the portfolio "Sable mouvant", illustrated with 10 aquatints by Pablo Picasso (please note that we only sell this plate and NOT the complete art book). "Sable mouvant" is Pierre Reverdy's last poem, considered by the author himself to be his poetic legacy. It was published posthumously as an eponymous in-folio, as a tribute by Pablo Picasso to his late friend. The art book was published by Louis Broder in 1966, in Paris.
The aquatints were engraved by Pablo Picasso himself, and printed by the Crommelynck workshop. All the engraving plates were scratched after printing, making modern reprints impossible. The text was composed by hand and printed by Fequet & Baudier.
Referenced in Cramer #136; Bloch #1189; Baer #1158.
A rare and magnificent edition by Pablo Picasso!
