Abbott Bérénice - Lot 1
Abbott Bérénice
Berenice Abbott. Hazan, 2012. The exhibition "Berenice Abbott (1898-1991), photographs", presented at the Jeu de Paume and the Art Gallery of Ontario by the Ryerson Image Centre, traces Abbott's rich career through one hundred and twenty photographs. The catalog accompanying this retrospective focuses on four major stages in Berenice Abbott's production: her modernist portraits of the 1920s, when she frequented the artistic and intellectual circles of Paris and New York; her work on New York urbanism and architecture during the devastating economic crisis of the 1930s, which led to the publication of a book entitled Changing New York; the fascinating but little-known experiments in scientific photography she conducted in the 1950s, when she was employed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston and, in the context of the Cold War, the United States sought to encourage scientific research. Paperback, text in French. Brand new, in original shrink-wrap. Publisher: Hazan
