D'agata Antoine & Belhaj Kacem Mehdi
Diagonale du vide. Diaphanes, 2019. 155 photographs by Antoine d'Agata and an essay by Mehdi Belhaj Kacem. The "diagonal of emptiness" or "diagonal of low density" is a wide strip of relatively sparsely populated French territory running from northeast to southwest, from the Meuse to the Landes. Internationally-renowned photographer Antoine d'Agata and French-Tunisian philosopher Mehdi Belhaj Kacem travelled along this path between declining towns and industrial zones. Along the national highways, they met outposts and scattered groups of yellow vests, as well as police battalions securing the tour of the President of the Republic. Their sober analysis depicts a France as real as it is ghostly, bearing the monotonous traits of a West emptied by neo-liberalism. Mint condition. Publisher: Diaphanes
