Freund Gisèle
Photographs. Born in Berlin in 1908, Gisèle Freund was forced to flee Germany in 1933 for Paris. During her years in Paris (1933-1940), she published her thesis on "Photography in France in the 19th century", produced her first photo-reports and made friends with booksellers Adrienne Monnier and Sylvia Beach, through whom she met many writers. Over the years, she produced a series of portraits in black and white, then in color, showing these famous writers in their environment, surrounded by their books. Text in English. Published in 2008 by Schirmer/Mosel. The book is bound in new, original shrink-wrapped paper. Publisher: Schirmer / Mosel
