In my room. Steidl, 2017. The archives of American photographer Saul Leiter continue to yield treasures, such as these series of hitherto unseen nudes. In My Room presents an in-depth study of the nude, through intimate photos of women he met and captured with his lens. In these black-and-white images, the bodies are modestly revealed in the natural light of his East Village studio in New York, revealing a unique collaboration between Leiter and his subjects. The project began as soon as the young Leiter arrived in New York and ended in the late 60s. In the 1970s, the artist had planned to produce a book of his nudes, but this was never realized. Saul Leiter has always preferred solitude, and resisted any kind of explanation or analysis of his work.
