From 1957 to 1961, Ikkō Narahara was a member, along with Shōmei Tōmatsu, Eikō Hosoe, Kikuji Kawada, Akira Satō and Akira Tanno, of the Vivo photographic collective, which inspired the photographic movement known as the "Image School" in post-war Japan and profoundly influenced the Japanese photographic style of the 1960s and 1970s.
