Large manuscript diploma in botany and medicine on vellum vellum, with gold and color paintings, awarded by Michel Chicoyneau to "Gilbertum Remigium Lemayre Molinensem". 1688. 53 x 65 cm. In Latin. Large lettering featuring plants: painted carnations and tulips. Beautiful autograph signature CHICOYNEAU at foot. Sewn silk lake at foot. Michel Chicoyneau (1626-1701) was an eminent professor of anatomy and head of the chair of botany at the University of Montpellier from 1659 to 1701. He was also intendant of the Jardin des Plantes de Montpellier from 1662. Documents relating to botanists of this period are rare. Fine condition. Enclosed: -a second 18th-century medical diploma, signed Boyer. Parchment. 18 x 24. Wax seal preserved in an iron box. In Latin. -4 pieces of medicine and surgery, signed on paper by Dubois, Fremont, Du Cerf and De Laleu. In Latin. Defects. -3 pencil drawings of a château.
