Louis Robert's work as a primitive photographer is presented here through a selection of
papers and negatives illustrating the diversity of his photographic output. In
four views of the château and garden at Saint-Cloud, the photographer plays with light on ornamental
ornamental surfaces and the various decorative forms of the 18th century. An
impressive paper negative (43.9 x 55 cm) of the Seine River as seen from Sèvres
Sèvres' close ties with the city, as well as a view of the entrance to the factory's
vegetable garden. Indeed, as head of the painting and gilding
gilding workshop as early as 1838, he set up a photographic workshop a decade later to promote the
to promote the objects produced there. Rare views of Brittany are also
in particular this negative of the Château de Lahunaudaye, which, accompanied by a salted
paper, is one of the very few examples of repiques by Louis Robert. Reluctant to retouch
to retouching, he did not use techniques to mask his skies. Another
composition of the Château du Vivier des Landes in Touraine shows his mastery of
