When the Comédie-Française burned down on March 9, 1900, actress Jane Henriot was present in her dressing room. She fled and, almost saved by the blaze, decided to return to save her little dog. Trapped by the smoke, she died of asphyxiation at the age of 21. A fashionable figure of the Tout-Paris, she had been painted by Renoir and Carolus-Duran, among others. She was buried in the Passy cemetery, where a bust by Puech was installed and the following words by Émile Faguet engraved: "Elle est venue, Elle a souri, Elle a passé!
