ACHILLE BONNUIT 1833-1906 Study of Trees, ca.1865. Photograp - Lot 44
ACHILLE BONNUIT 1833-1906 Study of Trees, ca.1865. Photograph. Albumen print mounted on card. Image: 14.3 x 10.8 cm; mount: 22.7 x 18 cm A gilder and decorator, Achille Bonnuit (1833-1906) joined the Sèvres factory in 1858. He took advantage of the artistic effervescence that reigned there to produce clichés, often in collaboration with his father-in-law Derischweiler. He produced tableaux vivants, still lifes and delicately rendered garden views, such as this composition of baskets filled with chestnuts, which he enhanced with a white cloth placed on the chair as a painter would deposit pigment, or the skilful use of lines through the serpentine curve of a staircase. The Musée d'Orsay holds other prints by Bonnuit (PHO 1984 70).
