Bouchardon An exceptional monograph, richly illustrated, to - Lot 83
Bouchardon An exceptional monograph, richly illustrated, to decipher and explore the first retrospective of the work of Edme Bouchardon, considered one of the greatest sculptors of the 18th century. Edme Bouchardon (1698-1762) was considered an exceptional artist in his day. Trained at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in Paris, Bouchardon soon received a studio and lodgings at the Louvre. Accepted by the Académie in 1735, he became the King's sculptor. Bouchardon was considered by his contemporaries to be a leader of the school, the promoter of renewal in the arts, "the greatest sculptor and the best draughtsman of his century" (Cochin). This book gives pride of place to his work, and the explanatory texts describe and analyze it clearly and precisely. Bouchardon's sense of aestheticism is admirably transcribed in his numerous drawings, terracotta models and stone and marble sculptures, which were eagerly sought after by collectors of his time and are also presented in this book. This book is an ideal accompaniment to the exhibition to be held at the Musée de Louvre in autumn 2016, which will be the first major monograph to focus on Bouchardon's work. An opportunity to do justice to him as one of the leading protagonists of neo-classicism. prisma 2016
