Giacometti / Hans Fohan / Bernard Pages / Pablo Picasso GIACOMETTI L'OEUVRE ULTIME 1960-1966 (2017)
This book is published on the occasion of the exhibition: "Alberto Giacometti. L'oeuvre ultime" at Galerie Lympia, espace culturel du Département des Alpes-Maritimes - Nice from June 23 to October 15, 2017. The Département des Alpes-Maritimes presents the first exhibition devoted to Alberto Giacometti in Nice. Tailor-made for the brand-new Lympia gallery, the aim of this exhibition is not to offer a digest of his work, but rather a singular look at a little-known part of it, the last period, that of maturity, which runs from 1960 to the artist's death in 1966. Starting with his last models - his wife Annette, his brother Diego, his friend Caroline and the photographer Eli Lotar, with whom he was close - the chosen itinerary sheds light on Alberto Giacometti's work from an unprecedented perspective, in the intimacy of his studio on rue Hippolyte-Maindron, in the Montparnasse district of Paris, or in his room at the Hôtel de Rive in Geneva, reflecting the artist's place of life and creation.
Hans Fohan - Amor Vacui (quadrilingual edition, 2020)
Through their silence, Hans Fohan's paintings stand up against the excesses that oppress today's society. Imbued with purity, they draw the viewer into an aesthetic experience of the unspeakable, a poem in which no words are superfluous. Fohan paints what he feels. He embraces emptiness, chooses Amor Vacui. Combined with his existentialist philosophy, without biomorphic abstraction, Fohan's work is an impulse towards infinite energy.
BERNARD PAGES - MUSEE PICASSO ANTIBES (2015)
Young Bernard spent his childhood on a farm in a village near Cahors. In 1959 in Paris, he flunked the oral entrance exam to the Beaux-Arts. He enrolled at the Atelier d'Art Sacré, Place Furstenberg. In 1965, in Coaraze, a village in the hinterland of Nice, he took up, then abandoned painting in favor of sculpture. He uses rudimentary tools, plaster, clay, wood and stone. He met Jacques Lepage, who introduced him to Claude Viallat, Bernar Venet, Erik Dietman, and later Patrick Saytour, Daniel Biga and Daniel Dezeuze. In 1968-1969, he took part in the Nouveaux Réalistes exhibition in Nice, then, thanks to Viallat and Lepage, in numerous group exhibitions. He considers himself close to Supports/Surfaces. In 1971, he broke with Supports/Surfaces: Pagès worked on his own, no longer traveling to Paris and taking part in no exhibitions. In 1986, he organized a semi-circular path of drums on the side of a hill overlooked by Edinburgh Castle. In the 1990s, his sculptures evolved into works of apparent imbalance and obliquity. In 2004, for the Alcazar municipal library in Marseille, he created the metal river, in brushed stainless steel, engraved with images from the various historical eras of the site.
Pablo Picasso - L'homme au mouton (2018)
To mark the museum's reopening after expansion, La Piscine is organizing an exhibition devoted to L'Homme au mouton (1942-1943) by Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) in its new temporary exhibition hall (200m2). In Picasso's work, the question of sculpture is a recurring theme, and an important marker in the artist's research. Produced at the height of the Occupation, L'Homme au mouton seems to respond to a very particular artistic and political context. In the spring of 1942, Picasso visited the Arno Breker exhibition organized by the occupying forces and the Vichy regime in Paris, in the galleries of the Orangerie des Tuileries.
