Niki de Saint Phalle, Foujita, Clavé & Hervé Di Rosa Nik - Lot 144
Niki de Saint Phalle, Foujita, Clavé & Hervé Di Rosa Niki de Saint Phalle - Ici tout est possible (2018) An innovator and pioneer, Franco-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle (1930-2002) built up a vast and complex body of work over the space of fifty years. Her work gained international recognition when, in 1961, she took part in "The Art and Assemblage", a prestigious exhibition held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. From then on, Saint Phalle was invited to hold numerous solo exhibitions around the world. These cheerful, luminous Nanas have become her trademark. However, the artist and her work cannot be understood solely in the light of these works. This catalog, which accompanies the artist's first comprehensive retrospective in Belgium - a retrospective being held at Beaux-Arts Mons (BAM) - explores Saint Phalle's multifaceted practice and looks at his multidisciplinary work, which includes paintings, assemblages, sculptures, performances, public works, architectural projects, films and plays. It covers the whole of de Saint Phalle's career, showing how she used her boundless imagination and unique vision of the world to break out of the space typically reserved for women and become one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. The title "Ici tout est possible" is a statement Niki de Saint Phalle made about her Jardin des Tarots, a park of monumental sculptures in Tuscany, Italy. In the present context, however, it should be read as a reference to the whole of her artistic process, which, in her eyes, is one of unlimited possibilities. This comprehensive, richly illustrated catalog includes new scholarly texts by Catherine Francblin, Alison Gingeras, Denis Laoureux, Camille Morineau, Kyla McDonald and Xavier Roland. These essays are complemented by interviews with Daniel Abadie and Marcelo Zitelli, who were both close to the artist throughout their lives, and an illustrated biography. Foujita, the donation (2018) The museum's Foujita collection has become a must-have reference for evoking the famous painter often considered the greatest and most original of twentieth-century Japanese artists. Foujita was one of the key figures of the Ecole de Paris. It was in Reims, in 1959, at Reims Cathedral that he received his baptismal name: Léonard. He later had a chapel built in the Cité des Sacres, dedicated to Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix, where his body now rests alongside that of his wife Kimiyo. In 2013 and 2014, Kimiyo's heirs donated over 2,200 works and documents from the painter's studio to the museum. This catalog is the first step in the valorization of this exceptional donation, a tribute to the artist and to the donors. It is part of the dynamic research work launched on the collections of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims as part of its renovation and restructuring project. 240 m2 will be devoted to the Foujita donation, which has already won rave reviews from specialists and tourists alike, particularly the growing number of Japanese visitors to Reims. The Year of Japan will be the occasion for launching this book, which will also be linked to a temporary exhibition of graphic works from this collection, to be held at the museum next autumn. Clavé: On the art front (2019) February 1939, nearly half a million people flee the advance of Franco's troops and cross the Pyrenees. It's the Retirada. Among the refugees who began their exile in France by being interned in camps in the Pyrénées-Orientales region was Antoni Clavé. This promising young poster painter from Barcelona had put his talent at the service of the Republican army. In Prats-de-Mollo, then in Perpignan at the Haras camp, Clavé sketched his companions. His drawings enabled him to be freed. The exhibition "Clavé sur le front de l'art" presents seventy years of creative work, from his cinema posters created in the mid-1930s to the large-format works of the 2000s. The figure of the warrior, in painting, engraving and sculpture, bears witness to the artist's stylistic and technical evolution. Across mediums and styles, Antoni Clavé never totally renounces the human presence, even in abstraction and the artistic revolutions that have marked the 20th century. Hervé Di Rosa: L'oeuvre au monde (2018) On the occasion of its reopening, after expansion, the La Piscine museum in Roubaix presents the 19 stages of Hervé Di Rosa's world tour. A major player in
