ITALY - MILAN - PAVIA - LODI - POMPEO POZZI 1817-1888 Architectural studies by Pompeo Pozzi, ca.1860. Photographs. 6 albumin prints mounted on cardboard. Milan: Romanesque portal of the atrium of Sant'Ambrogio church, cloister of Saint Ambrose basilica, entrance to Palazzo Borromeo; Pavia: portal of San Michele Maggiore basilica, altar and architectural niches; Lodi: entrance to Palazzo Mozzanica. Images: 37 x 26.8; mounts: 40 x 30 cm Pozzi studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts and began painting in 1846, mainly alpine landscapes and views of the lakes of Lugano. In 1850, he turned to photography, making friends with the painter and photographer Luigi Sacchi (1805-1861). Sacchi had his magazine "L'Artista" published and distributed in Pozzi's studio, which was also an art dealer at the time. Specializing in architectural photography, he received commissions from Milan to photograph the city's buildings. Like the photographs shown here, his views are delicately composed and often animated.
