DAGUERRÉOTYPE - Lot 277
DAGUERRÉOTYPE Portrait of a family in front of a painting, 1849. Daguerreotype. Black background frame, gilded fillets and ornamentation. 15.3 x 12.8 cm The composition of this daguerreotype was designed to include the painted portrait of a man hanging on the wall. The young man is deliberately shifted to the left of the scene so that he can be seen. The style of the painting allows us to date it to the first half of the 19th century, contemporary with the figures or slightly earlier. Perhaps it represents the father or a family member.
