Man Ray (1890-1976) Promenade, 1968 Color lithograph on Arches paper Signed in pencil in the lower right-hand margin. Numbered "H.C. VII/XIX" in the lower left margin. With Arches watermark in upper margin. Dimensions: +Sheet dimensions: 53 x 66.8 cm / 20.8 x 26.3 in. +Image dimensions: 35.4 x 51 cm / 13.9 x 20 in. Condition : In good condition, with slight handling creases on the edges and two minor stains, one in the lower right margin, below the signature (visible only in light). Unframed. Very good impression with vivid colors. Hors-commerce" proof, outside the edition of 100. After "Première Promenade", a watercolor by Man Ray, 1912 (now in the Indianapolis Museum of Art), produced when the artist decided to abandon conventional painting and join the Dada movement. According to the Indianapolis Museum of Art, "this procession of caricatured humanoids, some in disguise, dates from the early career of Man Ray (born Emmanuel Radnitzky). Henri Matisse is the apparent inspiration for Première Promenade, with his brightly colored canvases of 1906 and 1907 featuring strange figures, which Man Ray saw in photographic reproductions shown at Alfred Stieglitz's Gallery 291 in 1910".
