Henri Matisse (1869-1954) Apollo, 1958 Lithograph on paper after Henri Matisse's 1953 "gouaches découpées". First edition. Lithograph on paper, printed on double page, after the 1953 cut-out gouaches by Henri Matisse. Signed and dated on the plate in the lower left margin. Dimensions: + Sheet size: 35.6 x 53.3 cm / 14 x 21 in. Condition : In good condition, with a few small mounting holes on the spine. Folded as issued. APOLLON printed on spine, as issued. From "Verve" (vol. IX, no. 35-36), July 1958, Paris, published under the title "Dernières Oeuvres de Matisse 1950-1954". These works were made by the artist with gouache-colored paper, cut with scissors and glued. They are presented here together with drawings executed at the same time or during the preceding period. Matisse composed the cover especially for this volume. These lithographic plates were printed in 1954 under his direction. The printing of the color lithographs by Mourlot Frères and the photogravure reproductions and typography by Draeger Frères, master printers, was completed in Paris on July 28, 1958.
