Giraudon Adolphe & Georges Une bibliothèque photographiq - Lot 109
Giraudon Adolphe & Georges Une bibliothèque photographique. Somogy, 2005. The Giraudon archives were founded in 1877 by Adolphe Giraudon, and taken over by his son Georges in 1953. The "Photographic Library" brings together collections, sometimes unknown or forgotten, of undeniable documentary, historical and artistic value, published today for the first time. In the 1860s, numerous photographic publishing houses sprang up all over Europe. Competition was fierce, and each tried to find its own specificity. In 1900, Giraudon, with over 115,000 photographs, offered a vast choice of documents from all eras, arts and civilizations to a clientele of artists and scientists. Illustrated with over 160 photographs, this book retraces the lives and careers of these two photographic publishers. A biographical dictionary featuring French and foreign correspondents, such as Joly-grangedor, Hanfstaengl in Germany, Alinari, Brogi and Anderson in Italy. Mansell in England, Hermann Heid in Austria, Jean Laurent in Spain and Raoult in Russia, complete this study rich in previously unpublished information. Somogy
