Koudelka Josef "Like the great painters of the 19th century, - Lot 148
Koudelka Josef "Like the great painters of the 19th century, Josef Koudelka chose quarries as his subject. Invited by the world's leading mining group, he surveyed quarries all over the world regularly for four years. He brought back some photographs, in black and white, which evoke a landscape at the end of the world. In these images the hand of man is everywhere but no human presence gives the scale of things. Nature is transformed, turned upside down by him. With this book, Josef Koudelka touches on something universal, in this very contemporary regard on the human work which lastingly modifies the landscape. When we look at these landscapes, because it is above all a book about the landscape, the prism of Land Art imposes itself on the viewer."
