Petersen Anders Sète 08. CétàVoir, an association dedicated - Lot 192
Petersen Anders Sète 08. CétàVoir, an association dedicated to promoting photography, invited Swedish photographer Anders Petersen to take a very personal look at Sète, "l'île singulière", during two residencies in 2007 and 2008. By immersing himself in the daily lives of the people of Sète, the photographer sought to go beyond the surface of things, without ever judging. His images of everyday life, probing the intimate without voyeurism, in search of contradictions, draw emotion and meaning from the little things. As he encounters people, on the verge of empathy, in a kind of perpetual state of wonder, he seeks to maintain the right distance. The photographer sums up the central challenge of his approach: "For a photo to be good, you always have to have one foot in and one foot out. My problem is that I always end up with both feet in. This book is the first in a series that will be devoted to photographs taken at the request of Cétàvoir during residencies in Sète. Each year, renowned photographers are invited to take up residence on this unique island. The prospect of a formidable portrait of the unusual and multifaceted city of Sète...
