Daniel Balavoine and Coluche during the "Restaurant du Coeur" operation, December 1985. "Gourma, Rahous, Mali, January 14, 1986. Death of singer Daniel Balavoine in a helicopter accident during the Paris-Dakar Rally. The 33-year-old singer Daniel Balavoine, married with a young son, was killed in a helicopter crash on the evening of Tuesday January 14 in Gourma, Mali, along with Thierry Sabine and three others. A competitor in the Paris-Dakar in previous years, Daniel Balavoine was taking part this year, not in the rally, but in a humanitarian operation called "Paris du coeur", aimed at supplying water pumps to African countries. Daniel Balavoine, who came to public attention with his huge hit "Le chanteur", surprised the media with his verve during his dialogue with President Mitterrand in 1980, and has always defended the cause of Africans. His latest song "L'Aziza" is still on everyone's lips."
