EXECUTION - ORLÉANS - Lot 167
EXECUTION - ORLÉANS Execution of Henri Languille, Orleans, 1905. Photograph. Vintage silver print in postcard format, titled, dated and inscribed "Photo Joseph Orléans" on the image. 8.7 x 13.8 cm The Drôme chauffeurs were bandits who terrorized the inhabitants of the countryside around Valence and Romans-sur-Isère between 1905 and 1908. They would break into their victims' homes at night and burn their feet in the fireplace to make them confess where their savings were hidden. Their misdeeds led Clémenceau to create the Brigades du Tigre to intercept them.
