KEYSTONE - FIRE - Lot 164
KEYSTONE - FIRE "THE CREMATION. Snake Creek, Florida. The war veteran's who had survived Château Thierry lost many of them, in the terrible hurricane that ripped through their veteran camp at Snake Creek. The flames are shown crackling through the crude pine boardx of 46 caskets as their bodies were ordered cremated as a precautionary action against disease. On the wings of smoke clouds their souls seem curling up toward that Valhalla that is reserved for warriors", August 9, 1935. Photograph. Vintage silver print, stamp and label with handwritten caption on back. Handling marks and folds. Image: 24.4 x 19.2 cm; sheet: 25.7 x 20.1 cm
