BRUCE DAVIDSON 1933- - Lot 11
BRUCE DAVIDSON 1933- Reflections and Shadows, Paris, 1962. Photograph. Vintage silver print, author's stamp on back. Image: 16 x 23.7 cm; sheet: 20.2 x 25.2 cm While studying photography at university, Bruce Davidson was deeply influenced by the words of Henri Cartier-Bresson (Images à la Sauvette, 1952): "It is in living that we discover ourselves, at the same time as we discover the outside world. It shapes us, but we can act on it". In 1957, based in Paris for his military service, he produced his first essay, "La Veuve de Montmartre", and presented it to his "photographic father" Henri Cartier-Bresson, who encouraged him to continue his work. This photograph dates from this period.
