ROBERT DOISNEAU 1912-1994 - Lot 13
ROBERT DOISNEAU 1912-1994 Les animaux supérieurs, 1954. Photograph. Silver print ca. 1960, author's stamp on back. 18 x 24 cm Bibliography: Robert Doisneau "Un certain Robert Doisneau", Éd. du Chêne, Paris, 1986, p.124. "We feel sorry for the stupid people around us. Because really, they're all ugly, except for the monkey. But everyone puts their own spin on it. In the case of the 'superior animals', that's really what drove me. These people represent the thing I hate most: the crowd. For me, the monkey was the loner, the others were the anonymous, cowardly, mocking crowd." Robert Doisneau
