JEANLOUP SIEFF 1933-2000
Aldous Huxley, Hollywood, 1962.

"I had suggested to the art director of Harper's Bazaar that we go to Hollywood to shoot fashion, more to discover the people and myths there than for the models' dresses! I had the opportunity to photograph Alfred Hitchcok, Billy Wilder, old producers, kidney-shaped swimming pools... and Aldous Huxley, who was a little reluctant to have to pose with a model. I had to take them for a walk in a garden to calm him down. It was during this tense wandering that I painted this portrait. He died shortly afterwards, his face already looking like a death mask, but when the photos were finished, he was charming and funny, probably happy to be done with me!" Jeanloup Sieff
