Roger Schall, born in 1904, was one of the photographers who left their mark on the 1930s with his fashion photos, portraits and, above all, his reportage work in Paris and the provinces. The arrival of the Leica and Rolleiflex enabled him to take instant photos. His first publications, in 1932, were noticed by the big press bosses, and commissions for reportage followed one another. The Montmartre studio, set up in 1931 with his brother, became a veritable agency, distributing images to the world's leading magazines: Vu, Vogue, L'illustration, Picture Post, Bystander, Life, Paris-Match...150 covers and 10,000 photos published.
