"Apart from my report on André Lhote, I'd been riding my motorcycle a lot in the Midi with Marie-Anne, then in the South-West, enriching my archives with a host of motifs encountered along the way. In my diary for the year, on September 2, the day after my return, I read: "I've started developing my 52 films! We're in La Ciotat. There, I saw these two kids diving from the boat's chains. This photograph has often been published." Willy Ronis
