Born in Hungary, Emeric Feher moved to Paris in 1926, at the same time as the Hungarian photographers Brassaï and André Kertész and the American Man Ray. A freelance photographer from 1936, he produced reportage and advertising commissions, documenting the France of his time with a humanist eye. At the same time, he continued to experiment with the possibilities of photographic techniques.
In 1934, together with journalist André Lejard, German photographer Maria Eisner and René Zuber, he founded Alliance Photo, the first French photographic agency dedicated to press illustration. Most of the Feher collection, comprising over 20,000 photographs, is held by the Centre des monuments nationaux.
