Louis-Nicolas CABAT (1812-1893) - Lot 45
Louis-Nicolas CABAT (1812-1893) La Porte d'Amont, Étretat, 1857. Drawing signed with the studio stamp lower right. 9.2 x 14.6 cm Inspired by his faith, Cabat left for Italy in the early 1830s. There, he learned to paint landscapes of the Italian countryside, some of which are preserved in the Cabinet des Arts Graphiques of the Musée du Louvre. On his return to France, he detached himself from the influence of Flers, his master, to produce drawings of an increasingly free style. Such is the case of this pencil drawing of the Porte d'Amont at Étretat in 1857. Waves break on the beach as a boat, sails inflated, prepares to disembark.
