Paul-Émile LECOMTE (1877-1950) - Lot 63
Paul-Émile LECOMTE (1877-1950) The mill at Fourges, Eure. Gouache and watercolor. 49 x 64 cm Provenance: sale of the Paul-Émile Lecomte workshop. Paul-Émile Lecomte was born in Paris in 1877. A pupil of Cormon, he exhibited at the Salon from 1911. A great draftsman, Lecomte was also a fine colorist. Water is the main element in his work, and he perfectly masters its variations, creating a rendering close to that of his contemporary Louis Aston Knight (1873-1948). As a result, he was logically appointed official painter to the French Navy in 1921. All the painter's qualities - softness of color, rendering of water and quality of line - are summed up in this large view of the Fourges mill.
