Paul-Émile LECOMTE (1877-1950) - River banks. - Lot 65
Paul-Émile LECOMTE (1877-1950) - River banks. Drawing and wash signed lower left. 25.7 x 28.5 cm Paul-Émile Lecomte was born in Paris in 1877. A pupil of Cormon, he exhibited at the Salon from 1911. A great draftsman, Lecomte was also a good colorist. Water is the main element in his work, and he perfectly masters its variations, creating a rendering close to that of his contemporary Louis Aston Knight (1873-1948). As a result, he was logically appointed official painter to the French Navy in 1921. This extremely fine wash illustrates the artist's drawing skills.
