SNOECK - Des Musées de Metz / Images Révélées / Le Fonds KM / Midi Antique Des musées de Metz au Musée de la cour d'or: histoire des collections, reflets d'un territoire (2018)
The Musée de La Cour d'Or - Metz Métropole wishes to publish a book tracing its history, from its creation in 1839-1840, to the present day. It is based on the academic work of the three main authors: Arnaud Bertinet, Jean-Christophe Diedrich and Julien Trapp.
IMAGES REVELEES POITIERS A L'EPREUVE DE LA PHOTO. 1839-1914 (2015)
For the first time, this exhibition will present a panorama of photographic creation in the city of Poitiers, from the time of the pioneers to the dawn of the First World War. The selected period runs from the beginnings of the daguerreotype (exhibited as early as December 1839 in Poitiers) to the heyday of the autochrome (the first of which was presented in Poitiers at the 1907 exhibition), i.e. to the end of the "artisanal" processes in the tradition of the 19th century. The period prints, mostly unpublished, were discovered after several years of fruitful research, in the museum and media library collections, national collections (Musée d'Orsay, Musée français de la photographie in Bièvres, Historial de Vendée, Médiathèque de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine, etc.) and international collections (Victoria & Albert Museum in London, J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, etc.). They testify to the effervescence of the new photographic process, at a time when the city is undergoing the greatest urban and social transformation in its history.
The KM collection. Another look at the Great War between Meuse and Moselle (2018)
The Musée de La Cour d'Or - Metz Métropole has created a series of books to showcase the collections held in storage after their scientific study. This series, entitled "Trésors des réserves" (Treasures from the storerooms), is designed to promote awareness of these remarkable collections among a wide audience, thanks to an approach inspired by the issues dealt with in Art History, while favoring the more meticulous iconography typical of art books. Publication and distribution of a 4th book presenting the First World War photographic collection held by the Musée de la Cour d'Or.
MIDI ANTIQUE. PHOTOGRAPHY AND HISTORIC MONUMENTS
While Rome and ancient Greece have already been the subject of photographic exhibitions, the South of France has never before been shown and studied from this angle. The subject is only partially addressed in works devoted to the Mission héliographique (Philippe Néagu, 1980, Anne de Mondenard, 2002), in Gilbert Beaugé's La Photographie en Provence (1995) or in a monographic study of Dominique Roman (Arles, 1997). In addition to the intrinsic quality of many of the images, particularly those from the 1850s (Baldus, Piot), which show the evolution of the way in which monuments are viewed in relation to prints, the exhibition also evokes the close links between the "patrimonialization" of sites and monuments (some of which have been cleared and restored since the early 19th century, others are currently being restored, such as the arena in Nîmes, the theater in Orange and the temple in Vienne) and the advent of photography (Daguerre's process was made public in 1839, and the first list of state-protected historic monuments was drawn up a year later).
