HENRI LE SECQ 1818-1882 [with a print] - Lot 4
HENRI LE SECQ 1818-1882 [with a print]
"Henri Le Secq: photographe de 1850 à 1860", Musée des Arts Décoratifs / Flammarion, 1986, 192 pages.
Hardcover with illustrated dust jacket. First edition; catalog raisonné from the Collection de la Bibliothèque des Arts Décoratifs , Paris. Texts by Eugénia Parry Janis and Josiane Sartre. The Henri Le Secq collection at the Bibliothèque des Arts Décoratifs in Paris is one of France's primitive photographic collections, exceptional for the quality of its conservation and the number of negatives and prints it contains: 400 negatives on dry wax paper and 700 prints on salted paper. The prints reproduced in this catalog raisonné sum up the work of one of France's first calotypists. They include views of monuments during the heliographic mission in 1851, views of the demolition of Paris in 1852 and 1853, studies of land and trees, portraits and still lifes on blue paper known as cyanotypes. 717 works are reproduced here.
In-4 (28 x 22 cm)
The work is enhanced by a modern (1980s) reprint, on RC paper, in 24 x 18 cm format of the famous photograph "le petit soldat" (portrait of his son circa 1850), with annotations and stamp on verso.
