RAYMOND DEPARDON 1942- GAMMA - Lot 146
RAYMOND DEPARDON 1942- GAMMA "The Tuaregs". For several years, drought has persisted in the Sahel. Fleeing from Mali, some 15,000 Tuaregs headed north across the Sahara. They are now dying out in southern Algeria, despite the efforts of the authorities and the Red Crescent. Nomadic herders whose flocks have been decimated, the Tuareg are unable to adapt to a sedentary lifestyle and diet, and hunger, disease and exhaustion are claiming at least 25 lives every day. It's the end of the great caravans, perhaps the end of a people. Algeria, Tim'Gaouine March 1974." Photograph. Vintage silver print, stamp and caption on back. Marks of handling. Small tear. 30.2 x 20 cm
