ICEBERG - KEYSTONE - Lot 293
ICEBERG - KEYSTONE
"It looks very pretty, but it is also very deadly... Iceberg in the North Atlantic. This is a picturesque yet monstrous menace to navigation in the North Atlantic and was sighted during a previous ice patrol season. Dwarfed by the size of the iceberg is thr 213 ft. seagoing tug Acushnet (wat-127), one of the United State Coast Guard vessels making surface observations in collaboration with those made from the air by Coast Guard planes. When a berg such as this is sighted, its location and movement are checked. Ice broadcoasts made twice daily from Coast Guard Station NIK Argentinia, Newfoundland, send warnings to ship navigators using the North Atlantic shipping lanes, February 23rd, 1960."
