ANDRÉ ADOLPHE EUGÈNE DISDÉRI 1819–1889 - Lot 114
ANDRÉ ADOLPHE EUGÈNE DISDÉRI 1819–1889 Portraits of Mr. Frédéric Henry Tudor, 1862. Photograph. Albumen print, the artist’s negative number inscribed in the image and captioned on the reverse; label captioned and dated in ink beneath the image. Image: 19.7 x 23.2 cm; mount: 26.2 x 33.7 cm Provenance: Former Maurice Levert Collection. This print comes from Disdéri’s studio collection, which was saved from destruction by General Rebora, who gave it to his friend, the collector Maurice Levert. The negatives are missing. In 1854, Disdéri invented the carte-de-visite format. What makes this collection unique is that, instead of a small image mounted on cardboard as it was sold to customers, the sheet is complete with all 8 views.
