François Baboulet: Seaside Landscape, undated (Ballpoint pen drawing)
Ballpoint pen drawing (Bic)
Dedicated and signed by hand in the upper right corner: “For Yves Guérin, with warm regards, F. Baboulet”
Dimensions:
Paper: 36 × 27 cm (14.17 × 10.63 in.) — Image: full sheet
Condition: good condition, unframed
Provenance: Yves Guérin’s guestbook, compiled between 1963 and 1992 (from a single collection).
Description: A finely executed pen-and-ink drawing of a coastal landscape—a large tree framing the left side, a village with a bell tower and the sea beyond, mountains rising in the background, sailboats on the shore, and figures gathered near baskets in the foreground. The lively, hatched penwork is characteristic of Baboulet’s drawing style. François Baboulet was a French painter, draftsman, and illustrator, trained at the Beaux-Arts in Toulouse and Paris (in André Devambez’s studio); a “painter of poetic reality,” he was appointed Official Painter to the Navy in 1973 and served for many years as president of the Société nationale des beaux-arts, painting landscapes, seascapes, and still lifes in a figurative tradition influenced by Chardin, Vuillard, and Bonnard. Coastal scenes of villages and coves bustling with figures are characteristic of his work. Signed and inscribed by hand.
